Parttime (16 hours per week) – based in Amsterdam

The position

The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) is seeking an influenza vaccine consortium leader to proactively guide the Horizon 2020 project ‘Effective and Affordable Flu Vaccines for the World (INDIGO)’ project.

The INDIGO consortium is a collaboration of research institutes and SMEs from the EU, India and the United States. The goal of the project is the development of next generation influenza vaccines with low antigen dose and low cost. For more information, visit the project website:

The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation Programme. It is a 5-year (60-month) project which began in April 2020, ending in 2025.

The project is coordinated out of the Amsterdam University Medical Centers (Location AMC), with AIGHD effectively administering the project on Amsterdam UMC’s behalf.

Main tasks & responsibilities

As the Consortium Leader your will:

Leadership Tasks (together with the Scientific Consortium Lead (in India))

  • Act as the project’s Steering Committee chair
  • Foster the relationship between all consortium parties
  • Organize and chair regular meetings
  • Ensure the quality of the outputs is sufficient to meet the standards listed in the project
  • Lead the project on risk identification and mitigation
  • Collaborate with the Project Support Office and Steering Committee and interact with external experts in the Scientific Advisory Board

Coordination Tasks

  • Ensure that the project objectives are realized on schedule and within budgetary limits. Furthermore, ensure that the activities of all partners involved are in conformity with the Grant Agreement
  • Coordinate the project deliverables within AUMC’s responsibility
  • Act as lead point of contact with the EC
  • Allocate and coordinate of internal resources (human and financial) to undertake the duties listed in the projects
  • Work in close collaboration with the dedicated project manager
  • Manage IP and interest of consortium and participants
  • Oversee the Central Financial Management of the EU part of the program


  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in coordinating and management of international biomedical research projects (preferably in EU Framework projects)
  • PhD level
  • Experience with project coordination in LMIC
  • Ambitious, focused and ability to deliver results within short deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and can motivate and enthuse a team (leading from behind)
  • Can lead with confidence and with a diplomatic approach
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Flexible, proactive, professional and reliable
  • Experience with working with Indian partners will be considered as an advantage

AIGHD offers

AIGHD offers an excellent job opportunity in a cutting-edge working environment in global health and development. Depending on education and experience, the monthly salary for 16 hours per week ranges from € 2.290 to € 3.056,80 (maximum). AIGHD has a fulltime workweek of 40 hours, 25 days leave annually an attractive collective pension plan and a very comprehensive collective health insurance scheme. The position is based at the office of AIGHD in Amsterdam.

We offer an employment contract with AIGHD. However, for this project it is also possible to work through a consultancy or secondment contract.
