- PhD Fellow
Carolyn Briody is a PhD candidate with the Department of Paediatrics at the Amsterdam University Medical Center and an epidemiologist with an interest in paediatric health in low- and middle-income countries. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and has worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2017, focusing on health emergencies, public health intelligence, and epidemiological surveillance.
Her research focuses on improving health outcomes for children, particularly in resource-limited settings. Working with the Childhood Acute Illness and Nutrition (CHAIN) Network and under the supervision of Dr. Michaƫl Boele van Hensbroek and Dr. Wieger Voskuijl, she will explore risk prediction modeling to identify children at high risk of mortality with the aim to improve hospital-based and follow-up care. By leveraging large-scale data from the CHAIN cohort study conducted in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, her work aims to inform clinical decision-making, enhance post-discharge interventions, and develop evidence-based guidelines to optimize pediatric care.
