Building the evidence base for new tuberculosis diagnostics.

On 13 November 2012, the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the South African Ministry of Health, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development organized a meeting on implementation research and scale-up of Xpert MTB/RIF and next-generation tuberculosis diagnostics, timed to the Union World Conference on Lung Health in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting provided a forum to share data, conclusions and research models from studies in Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia and India to gauge the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and implementation feasibility of Xpert MTB/RIF.
