Frank van Leth elected Chair of TBnet research network

Dr. Frank van Leth was elected Chair of the TBnet research network during its annual meeting held in Milan last week.

TBnet is a European research collaboration consisting of over 600 members. Its constituency consists of clinicians and specialists from the field of immunology, laboratory science, translational science, and epidemiology. The network has an impressive research output including publications in journals such as the New England Journal of MedicineEmerging Infectious Diseases, and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Aside from research, TBnet engages in training early career clinicians and researchers in the field of TB, as exemplified by the yearly TBnet Academy and the European Advanced Course in Clinical Tuberculosis.

Dr. Frank van Leth is a Senior Epidemiologist at AIGHD with extensive experience in the field of infectious diseases, with an emphasis on HIV and tuberculosis. He has a strong affinity for novel, yet contextually relevant, methodological approaches for capturing public health needs and designing appropriate interventions. Recent projects include national surveys in Tanzania (tuberculosis prevalence, drug-resistance) and Bangladesh (tuberculosis prevalence), multiple projects in the context of redefining the tuberculosis treatment delivery strategy in Tanzania, and assessing new epidemiological methodology for rapid assessment of antimicrobial resistance in urinary tract infections in Indonesia. Dr. van Leth is also engaged in training and teaching of epidemiology and medical statistics to undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students in the Netherlands and abroad.
