EGHRIN hosts ‘Equity in research for health’ satellite event at 10th EDCTP Forum

EGHRIN (The European Global Health Research Institutes Network) is proud to host a satellite event during the Tenth EDCTP Forum from 17-21 October 2021, where the theme will be Equity in research for health. AIGHD is the secretariat of EGHRIN and will be co-organizing the event.

Global public health research agendas are disproportionately shaped by the political and clinical priorities of white male voices of key funders from the Global North.

Female voices and voices from the Global South are underrepresented when decisions are made about research agendas that will directly impact their health and care. Achieving equity in global health research requires representation of a wider range of voices than are currently represented in common fora.

The satellite event is titled, “Equal Voices: Addressing Inequities in Global Health Research Participation”.

The meeting will be virtually hosted on 19 October 2021 from 13:00-14:00 (CAT and CET timezones). For this event, the organizers have invited three speakers to reflect on mechanisms for inclusive agenda-setting, which fully represent the Global South, offer progress towards gender equity, and stimulate action to follow rhetoric.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Barbara Kerstiëns, European Commission, Head of the Unit RTD D1 – Combatting diseases
  • Jolene Skordis, University College London, UK
  • Catherine Kyotubungi, African Population and Health Research Center

Registration will be free of charge. Register here
