AIGHD remembers MH17

On 17 July 2014, 298 people aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 were killed when their plane was shot down over Eastern Ukraine en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. Among those killed were Prof. Joep Lange and Jacqueline van Tongeren, on their way to the 20th International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia.

Joep was the founding father of the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development, the animator of its mission and the architect of its interdisciplinary approach. Jacqueline was key to turning his plans into reality and the driving force behind major AIGHD activities such as the INTEREST Workshops.

Joep and Jacqueline were mentors, inspirers and close friends to many of us – we miss them dearly. We continue to work to realize AIGHD’s mission in their memory.
