Laura Kalkman

Laura studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and has been involved in various global health initiatives during her studies and early career. After graduating she worked in multicenter malaria drug trials and studied at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to gain a Professional Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. After working in internal medicine in The Netherlands she is now a PhD student working on the topic of causes of fever in Sub-Saharan Africa and access to essential diagnostics in the tropics. This under supervision of Professor Grobusch (Amsterdam UMC), Profession Hanscheid (University of Lisbon), Profession Krishna (St. George’s University of London) and Dr. Sabine Hermans (Amsterdam UMC, AIGHD). She is currently working on an observational study on causes of fever in rural Sierra Leone.
